The Girl in Tails

Synopsis

Katja Kock's father won't buy her a new gown for the prom, so she borrows her brother Curry's evening tailcoat instead, smoking cigars and drinking brandy along the way. Her cross-dressed appearance scandalises the café society of the small town of Wadköping, until she's ultimately forgiven by the town's matriarch. Directed by and starring Karin Swanström (in her fourth and final film as director), this silent comedy tackles conformity, feminism and gender roles, and is now regarded as a pioneering feminist and queer classic of the Swedish silent era. Presented at Queer Wave for the film's 100th anniversary.
